History

Entirely of ashlar, this simple parish church benefits from the combination of elaborate architectural and stylistic elements which, bearing the mark of Reims influence, offer one of the most accomplished examples of Rayonnant formulae in rural Beauvaisis. Restoration campaigns took place in 1924, 1962, 1980, 1983. The parish church, established on steeply sloping ground, which explains the existence of a crypt beneath the 14th-century sacristy; on the south side of the apse, presents a regular plan which nevertheless reveals the juxtaposition of several successive building campaigns. Three centuries indeed separate the Rayonnant nave of four bays, bordered by simple aisles, erected around 1240-1250, from the slender Flamboyant apse which probably replaced, around 1540, the flat chevet of the medieval sanctuary. In the meantime, the transept was built, at the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century, whose crossing supports a squat square bell tower, as well as the straight bay of the choir, flanked by lateral chapels. Entirely of medium ashlar, the only discordance in this architectural concert, the wall of the north aisle of the nave, whose lower courses, built in rubble stone, continue at the same level of the north arm of the transept, testifies to the trial and error of the master masons of the 13th century during the construction of the nave.
