Située à l'angle de la rue Saint-Etienne et de la rue des Francs-Bourgeois, la maison Buissière fut bâtie au 16ème siècle ainsi que le laissent envisager les motifs sculptés de la façade sur la rue Saint-Etienne. History
Located at the corner of rue Saint-Etienne and rue des Francs-Bourgeois, the Buissière house was built in the 16th century, as the sculptured motifs of the façade on rue Saint-Etienne suggest. The history of the house seems intimately linked to that of the Saint-Etienne borough, grouped around the church and the monastery. It was, in the Middle Ages, one of the most prosperous quarters of the city whose inhabitants, free and exempt from taxes thanks to the charter of franchise granted in 1097, found themselves under the sole authority of the prior of Saint-Etienne. Rue Saint-Etienne was thus formed of modest dwellings on the ground floor of which shops developed their trade. No. 22 is distinguished by the quality of its rich façades. Little modified in the 19th century, the house was the object of restoration and enhancement in the 20th century, with the creation of a new storefront in 1995 which made it possible to reveal the corbelling of the first floor, the first course of the timber framing as well as a sculpture attached in the jamb.
