Selon la légende, un monastère dédié à la Vierge est implanté au bord de la Loire au 17e siècle, puis détruit par les Barbares. Au milieu du 11e siècle, l'évêque d'Auxerre et le comte de Nevers confient à Hugues, abbé de Cluny, la fondation d'un prieuré à la Charité. Ce premier prieuré de l'abbaye de Cluny est consacré en 1107, jouant un rôle important d'étape sur la route de Compostelle, entraînant le développement et la fortification de la ville autour du monastère. Les grandes campagnes de construction se situent à la fin du 15e siècle avec le logement du prieur et la porterie ; et aux 17e et 18e siècles selon les critères du classicisme et de grandeur de l'architecture monastique de cette époque. History
According to legend, a monastery dedicated to the Virgin is established on the banks of the Loire in the 7th century, then destroyed by the Barbarians.
