Historique
Construit au XIIe siècle, le château de Bazoches est acheté en 1673 par Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. Ce dernier s’établit avec sa famille dans le château et fit d’importantes transformations afin d’installer des logements et des ateliers pour les ingénieurs militaires qui y travaillaient sous ses ordres. Le château devint une sorte de garnison aménagée en bureaux pour les besoins des programmes de fortifications du royaume.
Description
Le château présente aujourd’hui un plan trapézoïdal cantonné de quatre tours circulaires et d’un donjon carré. Les fossés furent comblés vers 1840. A l’intérieur, la chambre du maréchal conserve son mobilier (classé MH). Son cabinet de travail est une petite pièce polygonale dont le plafond est décoré en trompe-l’œil.

History
Built in the 12th century, the castle of Bazoches is purchased in 1673 by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. The latter established himself with his family in the castle and made important transformations in order to install lodgings and workshops for the military engineers who worked there under his command. The castle became a sort of garrison fitted out in offices for the needs of the kingdom's fortification programmes.
Description
The castle today presents a trapezoidal plan flanked by four circular towers and a square keep. The moats were filled in around 1840. Inside, the marshal's chamber retains its furniture (classified historic monument). His study is a small polygonal room whose ceiling is decorated in trompe-l'oeil.
