Historique
Ensemble prestigieux, l'abbaye de Juaye-Mondaye, fondée vers 1200 par l'évêque de Lisieux, s'impose dans l'histoire architecturale du mouvement prémontré pour avoir été entièrement reconstruite dans le style classique, à partir de 1706, par un chanoine, artiste d'illustre descendance : Eustache Restout (oncle du peintre Jean Restout). Son oeuvre demeura toutefois inachevée, notamment le cloître. La communauté dut quitter l'abbaye plusieurs fois (1789, 1880, 1903) , mais le projet initial fut poursuivi : l'ensemble des bâtiments du 18e siècle fut achevé à la fin du 19e siècle dans le respect du parti et de l'esprit architectural imaginé par Restout (église : 1704-1717 ; aile est du carré claustral et aile sud : 1731-1738 ; pavillon d'entrée et ses ailes, pressoir, grange à dîmes : 1741-1743 ; galerie sud du cloître et aile ouest : 1860-1880 ; aile nord avec galerie du cloître : 1896-1903). Aujourd'hui en extension, la communauté vient d'acquérir un bâtiment agricole (ancienne grange avec pressoir dépendant de la ferme à l'ouest de l'abbaye) , où elle envisage un projet d'hôtellerie. C'est un des monuments majeurs de la Basse-Normandie.

History
A prestigious ensemble, the abbey of Juaye-Mondaye, founded around 1200 by the bishop of Lisieux, stands out in the architectural history of the Premonstratensian movement for having been entirely rebuilt in the classical style, from 1706 onwards, by a canon, an artist of illustrious descent: Eustache Restout (uncle of the painter Jean Restout). His work nevertheless remained unfinished, notably the cloister. The community had to leave the abbey several times (1789, 1880, 1903), but the initial project was pursued: the ensemble of 18th-century buildings was completed at the end of the 19th century in respect of the scheme and architectural spirit imagined by Restout (church: 1704-1717; east wing of the claustral range and south wing: 1731-1738; entrance pavilion and its wings, cider press, tithe barn: 1741-1743; south gallery of the cloister and west wing: 1860-1880; north wing with cloister gallery: 1896-1903). Today in expansion, the community has just acquired an agricultural building (former barn with cider press belonging to the farm to the west of the abbey), where it is considering a hotel project. It is one of the major monuments of Lower Normandy.
