Historique
Ce château constitue l'un des édifices majeurs du Pays d'Auge. Il a été construit de 1597 à 1602 par l'architecte François Gabriel (ancêtre de la célèbre lignée des Gabriel) pour Guillaume de Hautemer, sur un manoir plus ancien (dont le seul vestige est le colombier). L'aménagement d'un potager, la plantation de pommiers et la modernisation du décor intérieur sont intervenus au 19e siècle (cheminées, boiseries, etc.). Au début du 19e siècle, le château a été acquis par Madame de Custine. Chateaubriand y a effectué plusieurs séjours. History
This château constitutes one of the major buildings in the Pays d'Auge. It was built from 1597 to 1602 by the architect François Gabriel (ancestor of the celebrated Gabriel family) for Guillaume de Hautemer, on an older manor (of which the only vestige is the dovecote). The laying out of a vegetable garden, the planting of apple trees and the modernization of the interior decoration took place in the 19th century (fireplaces, wainscoting, etc.). At the beginning of the 19th century, the château was acquired by Madame de Custine. Chateaubriand made several stays there. Despite the modifications of the 19th century, the importance of the building was underlined by Ruprich-Robert as early as 1925.
