Reconstruit en 1856, peu après son acquisition en 1854 par Jules Roussel, propriétaire de la forge d'Orthe (Mayenne). Il reçut cette forme circulaire dont on ne connaît pas d'autres exemples dans l'Ouest de la France. Il a succédé à plusieurs générations de hauts fourneaux, le premier datant des années 1530, et a fourni, avec le fourneau voisin de Carrouges, la fonte du chemin de fer d'Alençon. Il cessa toute activité vers 1870.

History
Rebuilt in 1856, shortly after its acquisition in 1854 by Jules Roussel, owner of the Orthe forge (Mayenne). It received this circular form of which no other examples are known in the West of France. It succeeded several generations of blast furnaces, the first dating from around 1530, and supplied, with the neighbouring furnace at Carrouges, the cast iron for the Alençon railway. It ceased all activity around 1870.
