The Ministère de la Culture's notice
Historique

History
The castle was among the principal strongholds of Normandy. Occupied by the English from 1356 to 1360, it was returned to France by the Treaty of Brétigny. In the 16th century, it was taken by the Ligue and partly dismantled. At the beginning of the 19th century, twelve towers still existed. They were demolished to serve as a quarry for materials during the construction of the Fonte farm. Of the castle only the motte surrounded by moats remains, and a section of wall incorporated into the farm building. The motte was held to be a place of execution, and a place where the lords sometimes held the plaids.
