Abbaye fondée en 1229 par la reine Bérangère de Navarre, veuve de Richard Coeur-de-Lion, et confiée aux cisterciens. Destruction partielle en 1365 par les habitants du Mans. Restauration et reconstruction de la fin du 14e siècle au milieu du 15e siècle. Transformations profondes à partir du 16e siècle, et surtout au 18e siècle (escalier des moines, dortoirs des moines, ...).

Abbey founded in 1229 by Bérangère of Navarre, widow of Richard the Lionheart, and entrusted to the Cistercians. Partial destruction in 1365 by the inhabitants of Le Mans. Restoration and reconstruction from the late 14th century to the middle of the 15th century. Profound transformations from the 16th century onwards, and especially in the 18th century (monks' staircase, monks' dormitories, ...).
