L'origine du château remonte au 10e siècle. Le donjon a été érigé au début du 12e siècle, puis entouré d'une forteresse au 13e siècle, par Saint-Louis. History
The origin of the castle dates back to the 10th century. The keep was erected in the early 12th century, then surrounded by a fortress in the 13th century, by Saint-Louis. This fortress consisted of four round towers joined by thick curtain walls. In the 14th century, the building was transformed into a pleasure residence by Louis I of Anjou, giving the castle the essentials of its present appearance. At the end of the 16th century, important ramparts were erected around the castle.
