Historique

History
The mill of La Roche, or de la Franchaie, which formerly came under the lordship of Serrant, was built during the second half of the 17th century; it then possessed only a single pair of millstones and its sails were of cloth. Around 1860-1870, it was raised and received wings with boards of the Berton system, two pairs of millstones and a Watt governor. It ceased operating in 1914 and was restored and put back into service in 1980. Its tower, in slate schist, measures 8 metres in height and 6 metres in diameter; the wall is 90 centimetres thick at the base and 70 at the top. It was encircled with two metal bands in 1906. The drive shaft, 6.20 metres in length, is of oak and is inclined at 13 degrees to the horizontal. The sails with a span of 15 metres carry pine-wood boarding of Oregon pine, one centimetre thick, with a maximum area of 52 square metres. The two pairs of millstones are located on the second floor, beneath the roof and the wind motor. The first floor houses the transmission of motion to the millstones by a lantern pinion and two crown wheels, as well as a bolter. The bagging takes place on the ground floor.
