La partie inférieure de l'édifice actuel n'est probablement pas antérieure au 17e siècle ou au 18e siècle, et fut rehaussée de deux mètres, en 1865, lors de l'installation des ailes Berton. Contrairement à nombre de moulins-tours du Segréen qui furent équipés d'un treuil de giration de la coiffe, ou encore d'un moulinet d'orientation automatique, celui de la Saulaie, conserve son guivre directionnel. Implanté sur une éminence rocheuse dominant le château, sa tour compte trois étages, vides de mécanismes. La coiffe est immobilisée, affaissée sur le chemin de roulement. Outre le guivre, sont conservés l'arbre moteur et une partie des verges, dépouillées de leurs verrons pivotants.

History
The lower part of the present building is probably not earlier than the 17th or 18th century, and was heightened by two metres in 1865 during the installation of the Berton sails. Unlike many tower mills of the Segréen region which were equipped with a roof-turning winch, or even an automatic orientation fan, that of la Saulaie preserves its directional vane. Built on a rocky eminence overlooking the castle, its tower has three storeys, empty of mechanisms. The roof is immobilized, sagging on the running track. Besides the vane, the drive shaft and part of the rods, stripped of their pivoting feathers, are preserved.
