D'origine médiévale et mainte fois reconverti (blé, foulon, tan, blé) , le moulin de Jau date vraisemblablement de la deuxième moitié du 19e siècle. Plurifonctionnel, il est identifié comme moulin à tan, d'après la remise qui est dans la cour et qui servait à abriter les écorces de chêne prêtes au broyage. Son activité a cessé en 1952. Restauré en 1982, il est redevenu céréalier. L'arbre et la roue ont été refaits à neuf en 1994. Le bâtiment de plan carré couvert d'un toit en pavillon, abrite au rez-de-chaussée la fosse avec son renvoi d'angle ; les meules sont à l'étage. Un toit à deux versants appuyé au côté nord du moulin et enjambant une partie du cours d'eau, abrite la roue de dessous traditionnelle de 5, 60 mètres de diamètres, d'une largeur de 1, 50 mètres, à 8 bras et 48 aubes droites. À l'extérieur du moulin, dans une niche se trouve une statuette de Sainte-Catherine, patronne des meuniers, un marteau à rhabiller à la main, une meule debout à son côté.

History
Of medieval origin and many times converted (grain, fulling, tanning, grain), the mill of Jau probably dates from the second half of the 19th century. Multifunctional, it is identified as a tanning mill, according to the shed which is in the courtyard and which served to shelter the oak bark ready for crushing. Its activity ceased in 1952.
