Historique

History
The blast furnace of la Poitevinière belonged to the forge of Riaillé, whose activity was attested on the site in the 15th century, and extensively documented in the 17th and 18th centuries. The building probably dates from the early 18th century, and was continuously maintained by the owner of the forge, the duc de Tourzel, until the cessation of activity in the third quarter of the 19th century. It was fuelled by charcoal, drawn from the forests of Ancenis and Saint-Mars, and carried iron ore to the point of fusion, extracted from the forest of l'Arche. It presents a cubic mass, in schist, approximately 8 metres in height, with a side of approximately 9 metres; its shaft is circular.
