Oeuvre manifeste de Le Corbusier, l'Unité d'Habitation de Rezé a été construite en 1953-1955 pour le compte de "La Maison Familiale", une société coopérative de logement fondée à Nantes en 1911, dans le cadre de la reconstruction de la ville, très touchée par la seconde guerre mondiale. On y retrouve les grands principes de Le Corbusier : utilisation du béton brut, architecture à échelle humaine ("le modulor") , architecture d'air et de lumière (logements ouverts avec soleil matin et soir) , ... Cette "maison radieuse", comportant 294 appartements, se distingue du modèle marseillais (voir notice PA00081373) par l'absence de rue commerçante, l'ampleur du programme étant limitée par le budget restreint des HLM.
