Historique
Le monument, oeuvre de l'architecte adjudant Henry, a été érigé à l'emplacement du trône de l'Empereur Napoléon Ier lors de la distribution des croix de la Légion d'Honneur à la grande armée le 16 août 1804. Tout d'abord composé d'une simple plaque de marbre scellée sur un massif de maçonnerie et inaugurée en 1809, le monument a été reconstruit à partir de 1856 à la demande de l'Empereur Napoléon III. Il se compose d'une courte pyramide posée sur un socle en pierre reposant lui-même sur un large soubassement qui supporte une grille en fer. La gravure est l'oeuvre du sculpteur Dorlinger.

History
The monument, work of the architect adjutant Henry, was erected at the location of the throne of Emperor Napoleon I during the distribution of the crosses of the Legion of Honour to the Great Army on 16 August 1804. At first composed of a simple marble plaque sealed on a mass of masonry and inaugurated in 1809, the monument was rebuilt from 1856 at the request of Emperor Napoleon III. It consists of a short pyramid placed on a stone base resting itself on a large plinth which supports an iron railing. The engraving is the work of sculptor Dorlinger.
