History

This is an unfinished building, begun around 1440, closed and roofed around 1585. From 1688 onwards, a series of important works were carried out, notably the construction of wooden vaults with wooden hanging keystones. The church is one of the monuments representative of flamboyant art in the west of the Pas-de-Calais department. It adopts an original form which consists of gathering the ribs of the vaults on a canopy sheltering a statue placed on a corbel. Montcavrel takes up the typology of the flamboyant capital with very low basket used from the 14th century onwards and which, from the early 15th century, introduces a sculptured frieze. Here, these friezes are historiated and represent episodes from the life of the Virgin and the martyrdom of Saint-Quentin.
