Il s'agit d'un complexe théâtral, en plein centre ville, qui regroupe un théâtre à l'italienne, une salle de concerts et trois autres salles de moindre importance : les salles des Orphéonistes, de l'Harmonie et de la Philharmonie, construites en 1870-1871. Le plan est étonnant - et unique en son genre - : deux salles se font face (théâtre et salle de concerts) et sont agrémentées chacune sur leur flanc d'une salle supplémentaire (salle de l'Harmonie pour la salle de concerts et salle des Orphéonistes pour le théâtre). Le théâtre a été construit en 1784-1785 selon les plans de l'architecte Gillet ; la façade se compose d'un corps central saillant et de deux corps de bâtiments identiques ; la salle de 750 places de forme elliptique comprend trois niveaux de balcons aux motifs décoratifs peints, soutenus par des potelets métalliques et garnis de loges cloisonnées. History
This is a theatrical complex, in the very centre of the city, which brings together an Italian-style theatre, a concert hall and three other smaller halls: the rooms of the Orphéonistes, the Harmonie and the Philharmonie, built in 1870-1871. The plan is remarkable - and unique of its kind: two halls face each other (theatre and concert hall) and are each adorned on their side with an additional hall (the Harmonie room for the concert hall and the Orphéonistes room for the theatre). The theatre was built in 1784-1785 according to the plans of architect Gillet; the façade is composed of a projecting central body and two identical building blocks; the 750-seat hall of elliptical form comprises three levels of balconies with painted decorative motifs, supported by metal posts and furnished with partitioned boxes.
