This ensemble consists of three houses from old Lille, dating from the 18th century and united at the beginning of the 19th by the industrialist Jules Maillot. His grandson, Charles de Gaulle, was born there on 22 November 1890. The interior has remained essentially in the state that young Charles must have known, which he evokes in his memoirs. The house now houses a small museum opened in 1983 by the Institut Charles de Gaulle. One can see there in particular the Citroën DS from the attempted assassination at Petit-Clamart (22 August 1962). The bust of Charles de Gaulle in the garden is by the sculptor André Journet.
