Historique

History
Between the 1st and 2nd century of our era, an important secondary town developed around a sanctuary dedicated to Mars. In the 4th century, the town is surrounded by ramparts. In the 17th century, a monetary hoard, thermal baths and an aqueduct are brought to light. The castellum forms an irregular quadrilateral and presents a fortification around a large thermal establishment, materialised by a curtain wall reinforced by around twenty semi-circular towers and at least one circular tower at the south-west corner. In the 4th century, on the East face, the curtain wall and towers are doubled by an external masonry. The castellum was protected by several successive ditches. The elements of the Late Empire fortification present a monumental entrance, an access causeway surmounting a sewer built in large ashlar. Other remains have been identified, from the Gallo-Roman period, as well as a cemetery from the Late Empire and the Early Middle Ages.
