Palais édifié à l'emplacement de l'ancienne citadelle française élevée après 1552, conçu par l'architecte Schönhals, responsable de la section des Bâtiments du ministère de la Guerre à Berlin. Les travaux, dirigés par l'architecte Stolterforth et l'inspecteur militaire Borowski, sont réalisés par l'entrepreneur Mungenast. La résidence est édifiée de 1902 à 1905 pour le gouverneur militaire allemand de Metz, le général Stroetzer, dans un style néo-Renaissance. Désigné comme Hôtel du Général commandant le XVIe corps d'armée jusqu'en 1918, puis comme Hôtel du Général commandant supérieur des troupes en Lorraine, il prend le nom de Palais du Gouverneur en 1922.

History
Palace built on the site of the former French citadel raised after 1552, designed by the architect Schönhals, responsible for the Buildings section of the Ministry of War in Berlin. The works, directed by the architect Stolterforth and military inspector Borowski, are carried out by the contractor Mungenast. The residence is erected from 1902 to 1905 for the German military governor of Metz, General Stroetzer, in a Neo-Renaissance style. Designated as Hotel of the General commanding the XVIth Army Corps until 1918, then as Hotel of the General commanding superior of the troops in Lorraine, it takes the name of Governor's Palace in 1922.
