Historique
Abbaye fondée en 1033 par le comte Adalbert d'Alsace. Monastère réédifié entre 1344 et 1375. Après plusieurs incendies (en 1552, entre 1630 et 1641 et en 1684) , reconstruction du cloître (1686-1692) et restauration de l'église (1690-1715). En 1777, construction d'un beffroi couronné d'un bulbe baroque. Travaux au 19e siècle (sacristie édifiée vers 1830, percement de baies en 1880, choeur décoré de peintures murales néo-gothiques, ...). Après les destructions de la seconde guerre mondiale, remplacement des vitraux, reconstruction de la flèche de la tour occidentale, du bulbe du clocher. Eglise remarquable par son chevet à tours jumelées, schéma ancien issu de l'architecture ottonienne, et son choeur à sept pans. Le plan basilical à trois absides orientées, sans transept, reprend probablement le plan de l'église romane du 11e siècle.

History
Abbey founded in 1033 by Count Adalbert of Alsace. Monastery rebuilt between 1344 and 1375. After several fires (in 1552, between 1630 and 1641 and in 1684), reconstruction of the cloister (1686-1692) and restoration of the church (1690-1715). In 1777, construction of a belfry crowned with a baroque bulb. Works in the 19th century (sacristy built around 1830, opening of bays in 1880, choir decorated with neo-gothic murals, ...). After the destructions of the Second World War, replacement of the stained glass, reconstruction of the spire of the western tower, of the bell tower bulb. Church remarkable for its chevet with twin towers, an ancient scheme derived from Ottonian architecture, and its seven-sided choir. The basilical plan with three oriented apses, without transept, probably follows the plan of the 11th century Romanesque church.
