De 1952 à 1954, elle est agrandie vers lest et augmentée dun cur polygonal en béton armé, sous la direction de lingénieur Victor Toubi. Les vitraux, les planchers de la tribune et le plafond sont remplacés. Cest la plus vaste église de Guyane, de plan basilical, à double collatéral. Léglise possède une façade de style néo-classique et un clocher à deux étages en bois.

History
In 1923 the decision was taken to replace the church of Saint-Nicolas. The works of the new church, erected in stone and brick, began in 1825 and were completed in 1833. In 1933, the church took the status of cathedral. It was consecrated in 1934. From 1952 to 1954, it was enlarged towards the east and increased with a polygonal reinforced concrete chancel, under the direction of engineer Victor Toubi. The stained glass windows, the tribune floors and the ceiling were replaced. It is the largest church in Guiana, of basilical plan, with double aisles. The church has a neo-classical façade and a two-storey wooden bell tower.
