Historique
Un premier hôpital en bois est monté vers 1821, suite au transfert de l'hôpital datant de l'époque de la ville bastionnée. Constitué, au départ, uniquement de bâtiments en bois, c'est à partir de 1830-1850 que l'hôpital se dote progressivement de bâtiments typiques avec un noyau central maçonné en moellons, des épaisseurs de murs qui diminuent du rez-de-chaussée aux étages et des galeries de chaque côté, d'abord en bois puis en structure métallique. L'hôpital est complètement achevé à la fin du 19e siècle et comprend une enceinte, un hôpital militaire, une chapelle, une partie pour les déportés, un pavillon d'entrée, un bâtiment pour les malades, sous-officiers, soldats et colons, un bâtiment pour les officiers, la pharmacie, le logement du médecin-chef, les cuisines, la buanderie, les bains publics et un petit amphithéâtre.

History
A first wooden hospital was erected around 1821, following the transfer of the hospital dating from the time of the fortified town.
