La ville de Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, fondée en 1858 par l'amiral Auguste-Laurent Baudin, gouverneur de la Guyane, comporte trois secteurs : le quartier officiel (auquel se rattache la perception) , la ville coloniale et le quartier du camp de la transportation. Agrandissement de la ville à la fin du 19e siècle et au début du 20e siècle. L'immeuble, construit dans les années 1889-1908, est implanté en retrait de la voie publique et comporte un bâtiment principal à deux niveaux ainsi qu'une annexe à simple rez-de-chaussée. Mur de clôture en briques à soubassement de granit. Le portail a conservé ses ferronneries anciennes.

The town of Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, founded in 1858 by Admiral Auguste-Laurent Baudin, governor of Guiana, comprises three sectors: the official district (to which the tax collection office attaches itself), the colonial town and the transportation camp district.
