History
The abbey of Saint-Savin was founded in the early 9th century on the site of the discovery of the burials of two Christian martyr saints, Savin and Cyprien, who died in the 5th century. The construction of the present abbey church dates from the second half of the 11th century (1040-1090). In the 16th century, the abbey narrowly escapes destruction. The installation of the congregation of Saint-Maur in 1640 allows it to experience a revival: reconstruction from 1682 of the abbey buildings and the cloister.
