Historique

History
Philippe Auguste had the church of Saint-Pierre, built within the town walls, razed in order to have another built outside, in the centre of the commercial district. Of this construction, only the sanctuary and the transept remain. After the Hundred Years War, the north nave was built. The building having become too small, the right side aisle and the portal were built in the early 16th century. The bell tower was consolidated in 1702. Nave and bell tower were restored in 1778. During the Revolution, the church became the Temple of Reason and then a fodder park. The building is formed of a rectangle, terminated on the east by a straight chevet, and divided into three naves parallel to the axis. The south portal, in round arch, presents concentric voussoirs laden with niches, canopies with statuettes, framed rosaces, angels, statues engaged almost in the round... The triangular gable is deprived of the bas-reliefs which formerly ornaments the tympanum. The main nave is covered by a round arch ceiling serving as vault. Inside, corbels and sculpted capitals. The quadrangular tower occupies roughly the middle of the right aisle. It has small bell towers at its angles and is surmounted by a pyramidal spire in masonry, modern. It is pierced by round arch windows. The spire is lit by eight rectangular windows. Two pillars buttress, each one, the faces of the tower and rise to its crowning.
