Selon la tradition, le roi Jean le Bon aurait été enfermé dans la salle basse de la tour d'entrée, au lendemain de la bataille de Poitiers, en 1356. L'édifice appartient au type des châteaux fortifiés. Il se compose de deux tours d'entrée datant du 14e siècle avec, de part et d'autre, des bâtiments s'étendant l'un au nord avec retour en équerre, l'autre au sud-ouest. Le système défensif (courtines, tours) a en partie disparu.

History
According to tradition, King Jean le Bon was allegedly confined in the lower chamber of the entrance tower, in the aftermath of the battle of Poitiers, in 1356. The edifice belongs to the type of fortified castles. It comprises two entrance towers dating from the 14th century with, on either side, buildings extending one to the north with a right-angled return, the other to the south-west. The defensive system (curtain walls, towers) has partly disappeared.
