Selon la légende, l'église aurait été fondée par Charlemagne. Eglise mentionnée pour la première fois à la fin du 11e siècle. La croisée, le choeur et la partie basse de la façade remontent à l'époque romane. Elle a subi de nombreuses transformations, surtout à la fin du 18e siècle (aménagement intérieur, stalles, reconstruction du clocher octogonal). Nouvelle campagne de travaux en 1889 (maçonnerie, charpente...) sous la direction de l'architecte départemental Surreau.
