Historique
Nommé gouverneur du Poitou, le duc de Sully fit construire cet édifice très certainement par l'architecte Charles Androuet du Cerceau. L'hôtel a été construit d'un seul jet, en pierre de taille appareillée suivant les coupes en usage à la fin de la Renaissance. Il s'élève sur deux sous-sols superposés, desservis par un escalier à vis. Le sous-sol inférieur est voûté en anse de panier avec clef formant nervure. Dans le grand escalier, les paliers sont supportés par des voûtes d'arête. Les rempants sont voûtés en berceau. Au rez-de-chaussée, la chambre principale conserve une vaste cheminée décorée de cariatides et de sculptures fouillées. Les poutres du plafond, les solives ainsi que les lambris, les portes et les volets de cette sont peints et dorés.

History
Named governor of Poitou, the Duke of Sully had this building constructed most certainly by architect Charles Androuet du Cerceau. The hotel was built all at once, in cut stone dressed according to the cuts in use at the end of the Renaissance. It rises on two superimposed cellars, served by a spiral staircase. The lower cellar is vaulted with a basket-handle arch with a key forming a rib. In the great staircase, the landings are supported by groin vaults. The rampants are vaulted with a barrel vault. On the ground floor, the main chamber retains a vast fireplace decorated with caryatids and worked sculptures. The beams of the ceiling, the joists as well as the wainscoting, the doors and the shutters of this are painted and gilded.
