La partie de l'hôtel de l'Intendance concernée par la demande de protection fut construite à partir de 1746 sous la direction de l'architecte de la ville Gilles Nassivet ainsi que de l'ingénieur Gendrier. En effet, à la suite de la séparation des postes d'intendant de la marine et de la généralité en 1717, l'intendant part exercer ses fonctions à la Rochelle et, en, 1729, la ville acquière une maison rue Pernelle et la transforme en hôtel de l'Intendance.£Trois travées horizontales marquées de limites par des bandeaux plats ainsi qu'une série de travées verticales, structurent l'ensemble. Les baies sont toutes dotées d'une agrafe à la clé, sculptée, de style rocaille. A l'intérieur, les différents étages sont accessibles par un escalier en bois muni d'une rampe en fer forgé. Le rez-de-chaussée abritait le cabinet d'audience et son antichambre ainsi que le bureau de l'intendant. Les pièces sont couvertes de lambris et de boiseries sculptées d'arabesques. Il subsiste des boiseries ainsi qu'une cheminée de pierre dans la chambre de l'intendant située au premier étage. Les autres pièces étaient occupées par l'intendante et le personnel de maison. L'immeuble est bâti sur des caves voûtées en appareil de pierre de taille.

History
The part of the Intendancy building concerned by the protection application was constructed from 1746 under the direction of the city architect Gilles Nassivet as well as the engineer Gendrier. Indeed, following the separation of the posts of naval intendant and intendant of the général in 1717, the intendant went to exercise his functions in La Rochelle and, in 1729, the city acquired a house on rue Pernelle and transformed it into an Intendancy building. Three horizontal bays marked by divisions with flat bands as well as a series of vertical bays, structure the whole. The openings are all provided with a sculptured keystone, rocaille in style. On the interior, the different storeys are accessible by a wooden staircase furnished with a wrought iron handrail.
