Historique
L'église présente trois, voire quatre campagnes de construction. La plus ancienne correspond sans doute à la construction de la nef. Le bâtiment aurait ensuite été remanié dans la seconde moitié du 12e siècle (réédification du chevet, de la façade occidentale, de la travée ouest de la nef et de la partie basse du clocher). Le choeur fut voûté d'ogives à une époque plus tardive. La partie haute du clocher, percée d'arcatures en plein cintre, ne semble dater que de l'époque classique. Cet édifice appartient à une famille assez répandue en Saintonge, caractérisée par ses petites dimensions aux proportions longues et étroites et l'agencement de son espace intérieur (choeur ouvrant directement sur la nef). La nef n'a jamais été voûtée et est simplement couverte d'une charpente à quatre chevrons portant fermes. Le clocher a été réalisé par adjonction, le long du mur gouttereau sud, d'un massif carré percé dans sa partie supérieure de baies en plein cintre.

History
The church displays three, or even four building campaigns. The oldest corresponds doubtless to the construction of the nave. The building would have subsequently been altered in the second half of the 12th century (reconstruction of the chevet, of the western façade, of the west bay of the nave and of the lower part of the bell tower). The choir was vaulted with ribs at a later date. The upper part of the bell tower, pierced with round-arch arcatures, seems to date only from the classical period. This edifice belongs to a fairly widespread family in Saintonge, characterized by its small dimensions with long and narrow proportions and the arrangement of its interior space (choir opening directly onto the nave). The nave was never vaulted and is simply covered with a roof structure of four-rafter couples bearing trusses. The bell tower was created by addition, along the south guttering wall, of a square mass pierced in its upper part with round-arch openings.
