Historique

History
Perpetual vicarage united to the cathedral chapter of Angoulême, Juillac became a seigneury of the bishopric. The parish church depending on the former diocese of Saintes, is mentioned in the 11th and 12th centuries. It was ruined from 1568 to 1575. Restorations took place from the 16th to the 19th century. The architect Peronnaud had a gallery placed in 1873, the altars, opened twenty windows with their stained glass then remade the façade and the brick vaults of the aisles. A fortified door of the old chapter house precedes the church to the west. The building terminates in a flat chevet. The square bell tower, with two storeys, is decorated with columns and two openings per face. The choir is higher, doubtless to shelter a refuge room. The nave under exposed roof structure communicates with the aisles by six round-arch arcades. The chapels of the 16th century are vaulted on rib crosses, forming a transept framing the bell tower square under an oblong dome on squinches.
