Historique
Le château appartint à la famille de Chambes, d'origine chevaleresque, qui possédait ce fief dès le 12e siècle. Il relevait alors du diocèse d'Angoulême. Du château remanié au 16e siècle, il reste l'entrée, trois tours, la porte de la chapelle et les vestiges d'un mur d'enceinte. L'entrée se compose d'un portail que précédait un pont-levis dont les fléaux sont marqués par leurs longues meurtrières entre lesquelles a été tracée une ouvertures carrée surmontée d'un motif décoratif représentant en saillie cinq consoles renversées imitant des mâchicoulis. Parmi les trois tours se trouve un donjon. La porte de la chapelle date du 16e siècle et donnait accès à une salle voûtée avec une voûte intérieure placée perpendiculairement à la façade.

History
The castle belonged to the de Chambes family, of chivalrous origin, who possessed this fief from the 12th century. It then fell under the diocese of Angoulême. Of the castle remodelled in the 16th century, there remain the entrance, three towers, the chapel door and vestiges of an enclosing wall. The entrance consists of a portal which was preceded by a drawbridge whose leaves are marked by their long loopholes between which a square opening has been traced, surmounted by a decorative motif representing in relief five inverted consoles imitating machicolations. Among the three towers is a keep. The chapel door dates from the 16th century and gave access to a vaulted room with an internal vault placed perpendicular to the façade.
