Divers événements historiques prirent pour cadre ce pont. Après la bataille de Jarnac, l'amiral Coligny y rallia les restes de l'armée protestante. En 1651, l'avant-garde du comte d'Harcourt y culbuta les avant-postes du prince de Condé. L'ouvrage repose sur cinq arches espacées par des pleins de même largeur que ces dernières. Ces pleins tiennent lieu de fondation car le pont ne semble pas posséder de radier. Il est surmonté par une pyramide rappelant les événements dont le pont a été le théâtre. Cette pierre sert de limite, sur la rivière, aux communes de Saint-Sulpice-de-Cognac et de Cherves-de-Cognac. La pyramide s'élève sur le parapet nord. D'après la tradition, elle était autrefois surmontée d'une croix.

History
Various historical events took this bridge as their setting. After the battle of Jarnac, Admiral Coligny rallied the remains of the Protestant army there. In 1651, the vanguard of the count of Harcourt overturned the outposts of the prince of Condé there. The structure rests on five arches spaced by piers of the same width as these latter. These piers serve as foundation as the bridge does not seem to possess a foundation raft. It is crowned by a pyramid recalling the events of which the bridge was the setting. This stone serves as limit, on the river, to the communes of Saint-Sulpice-de-Cognac and Cherves-de-Cognac. The pyramid stands on the north parapet. According to tradition, it was formerly surmounted by a cross.
