Historique
Fondation de Saint-Florent de Saumur, figurant dans les bulles dès 1122. Ce prieuré fut un centre de défrichement aux 12e et 13e siècles. Dispensé de résidence depuis au moins le 15e siècle, le prieur, dont le logis était en ruine dès 1600, nommait un curé dans les derniers siècles précédant la Révolution. De l'ensemble de l'édifice, il ne reste plus que l'abside et le mur de soutènement du clocher vers l'est, ainsi qu'une crypte. Des amorces de murs curvilignes laissent penser que de petites absidioles venaient peut-être s'y greffer. Le carré du transept était autrefois couvert d'une coupole sur pendentifs. History
Foundation of Saint-Florent de Saumur, appearing in papal bulls from 1122. This priory was a centre of land clearance in the 12th and 13th centuries. Dispensed from residence since at least the 15th century, the prior, whose dwelling was in ruins by 1600, appointed a curate in the last centuries preceding the Revolution. From the entire building, there remains only the apse and the supporting wall of the bell tower to the east, as well as a crypt. Traces of curvilinear walls suggest that small apsidioles perhaps came to be grafted there. The square of the transept was formerly covered with a dome on pendentifs. The apse has its walls rhythmed by five small arcatures of which two are blind. Roughly sculpted capitals with vegetal motifs support the series of arcatures.
