Historique

History
Castle built around 1600 on the site of a noble mansion. When Marie de Medici escaped from the castle of Blois, she remained for six months in the house, the seigneury of Balzac becoming the crossroads where the elite of the time met. The main dwelling presents a U-shaped plan: large central block in slate and lower wings in tile, the southern one preserving the vestiges of a gallery overlooking the courtyard. In the north-west corner is found a large pavilion covered with a high pyramidal roof. Mural paintings from the first half of the 17th century, no doubt commissioned by Guez de Balzac, representing trompe-l'oeil architecture and mythological figures. The castle was modernized in the 18th century, with two entrance pavilions framing a courtyard. The large courtyard of outbuildings is bordered, on the south and east, by a lean-to building open onto the courtyard by a colonnade.
