The church presents a chevet of a conception quite singular for the region, with its high polygonal half-dome surmounted by a defensive storey, which may date from the end of the 12th century. This fortified storey was served by an external gallery resting on quadruple stone corbels. On the exterior, on the north side, the chevet was connected to a choir similarly built, presenting the same setbacks at the same levels and rising to the same height. This beginning marks the probable outline of the old lateral walls of the initial construction. Perhaps a century later three bays of nave were built, two of which bordered by chapels with transverse barrel vaults. The end bay, surmounted by a tribune, is modern, as is the west door. Study of the walls allows one to suppose that the gothic part of the building (three bays of nave) was equipped with buttresses between which the chapels were built, which assumes the probable destruction of the primitive romanesque nave, insofar as it was ever completed.
