Le fort est situé sur un piton et protège les passages de Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans. Les plans sont dus à l'ingénieur militaire Saint-Hilaire et l'exécution à M. Rousselot. Les travaux, commencés en 1670, se sont achevés en 1674. Ce petit fort bastionné a remplacé une simple tour démolie en 1668. Les Espagnols l'ont assiégé en 1674 et il subit un blocus en 1793.

The fort is situated on a peak and protects the passages of Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans. The plans are due to the military engineer Saint-Hilaire and the execution to M. Rousselot.
