Historique
Les clochers dits "de tourmente" sont limités aux franges du Mont Lozère. Construits dans des hameaux dépourvus d'églises, ces ouvrages servaient à diverses occasions : angélus, glas, appel pour l'école communale, prévention contre les orages de grêle, signal sonore à l'attention des personnes égarées par le brouillard. Ils se limitent aujourd'hui au glas et aux incendies. Ces clochers s'apparentent au type du clocher-mur à baie unique à arc plein cintre et sont dressés sur une base rectangulaire amincie vers le haut. Certains sont munis d'une petite loge pour le sonneur, ménagée dans l'épaisseur de la base. History
The bell towers known as "storm bell towers" are limited to the fringes of Mont Lozère. Built in hamlets lacking churches, these structures served various occasions: Angelus, knell, call for the communal school, prevention against hail storms, sound signal for the attention of persons lost in fog. Today they are limited to the knell and to fires. These bell towers are similar to the type of porch tower with a single opening under a round arch and are erected on a rectangular base tapered towards the top. Some are fitted with a small lodge for the bell-ringer, created in the thickness of the base. Sometimes provided with a small niche in which the statue of the Virgin or a saint is placed, they are all charged with an iron cross or stone. These structures are the work of the 19th century.
