Historique

History
Tradition reports that important fairs were formerly held at the edges of the church. A single nave of three bays ends in a polygonal sanctuary. Two opposite lateral chapels form a transept and draw a Latin cross plan. The building presents juxtapositions which allow us to distinguish three or four building campaigns, or a long campaign interrupted by interruptions, with resumptions and second thoughts. To the initial campaign belong the nave and the chevet. The barrel vault, the moulding, the bases of the pillars of the ribs place this work at the end of the 13th or the beginning of the 14th century. In the middle of the 14th century, opening of the two arcades of the future chapels, by cutting the base of the south window. These two chapels were only finished and vaulted later. Before this completion takes place the construction of the south porch and of the door whose base profiles appear to date from the second half of the 14th century. The exterior walls of the chapels and the vaulting of them constitute the final phase, to be placed towards the end of the 14th century or the beginning of the 15th. The interior decoration was at first composed of geometric frescoes with some floral elements. Then these paintings were covered by frescoes with figures whose register appears to depict a dance macabre. This second decoration was itself covered, in the right part of this panel, by a large tree of Jesse. This last decorative stage does not appear to be later than the end of the 15th century. The decorations of the north chapel appear to belong to this same phase of the work. The paintings of the sanctuary, well preserved on the south side, represent the Virgin and other figures above two large figures, a monk and Saint Michael.
