Historique
Le Chapeau Rouge est l'une des auberges les plus réputées au 16e siècle, surtout appréciée pour le confort et les vastes dimensions de ses écuries. Du 15e siècle, subsistent l'escalier en vis, quelques encadrements de baies et l'arc d'une galerie avec moulurations en cavets. Au cours du 17e siècle, les bâtiments ont été agrandis, aux dépens de maisons voisines, et en grande partie reconstruits. De cette époque date aussi un changement dans l'exploitation de l'hôtellerie : les hôtes ne sont plus propriétaires de l'immeuble mais seulement du fonds. Le 17e siècle est représenté par les grandes fenêtres à meneaux sur rues et cours, le portail, les voûtes d'arêtes, les balustrades des terrasses et du degré extérieur.

History
The Chapeau Rouge is one of the most renowned inns in the 16th century, especially appreciated for the comfort and vast dimensions of its stables. From the 15th century, survive the spiral staircase, some window frame mouldings and the arch of a gallery with cavetto mouldings. During the 17th century, the buildings were enlarged, at the expense of neighbouring houses, and largely rebuilt. From this period also dates a change in the exploitation of the inn: the hosts are no longer owners of the building but only of the business. The 17th century is represented by the large mullioned windows on streets and courtyards, the portal, the groin vaults, the balustrades of the terraces and the external steps.
