1/ General hospital founded by letters patent in 1678 on the site of the Carmelite convent. Estimates and plans of 1679 due to Antoine Armand and Jacques Cubissolle, master masons and Montpellier architects (hospital pavilions: gridded plan with two courtyards). Women's ward built in the first half of the 18th century. Building of the Incurables added to the west in 1746 after plans by Jean Giral. In 1751, Giral enlarged the church which was completed by Jacques Nogaret (choir with cupola). 2/ The asylum for the insane is built to the west of the general hospital by Montpellier architect Fovis between 1821 and 1824 (neo-classical architecture). Demolished in 1932, there remains a building section of the northern ward. 3/ Saint-Charles Clinics: hospital block built from 1932 to 1939 by Paris architects Paul Pelletier and Arthur Teisseire in reinforced concrete and stone. Important ornamental programme (sculpted panel by Joachim Costa, stained-glass windows due to glass painter Emile Brière).
