Historique
Le lieu de Lavalette est cité dès 804 dans le cartulaire de Gellone. Il a été fortifié dès 1162. Ce château-fort devait s'élever à peu près au même emplacement que l'édifice actuel. Les seigneurs rendaient hommage à l'évêque de Lodève. La date probable de la reconstruction, au moins partielle, du château est 1585, suite au siège mené par le parti de Joyeuse. Après les troubles du 16e siècle, il est peu probable que de grandes réparations aient été entreprises avant la paix de 1595. Une grande campagne de restauration a dû se tenir dans le second quart du 17e siècle (il en reste une porte extérieure et une grande cheminée monumentale). History
The place of Lavalette is cited from 804 onwards in the cartulary of Gellone. It was fortified from 1162. This fortress castle must have stood at approximately the same location as the present building. The lords paid homage to the bishop of Lodève.
