Historique

History
In 1356, the order of Benedictines founds the monastery of the Dames de Corjan around the church of the old parish of Saint-Etienne de Gorjan (current hospital chapel). Between 1560 and 1577, the convent is destroyed during the Wars of Religion. Around 1850, it is rebuilt. The chapel dates from this period. The buildings develop from the 17th to the 19th century towards the north, following the profile of the terrain, the highest part on the street dating from the 19th century. A 17th-century staircase gives access to the two streets, compensating for the steep slope. The chapel with rectangular plan, flat chevet, not oriented, occupies the south-west corner of the ensemble. Access is by a portal with pilasters and cornice, topped with a niche and preceded by a semi-circular flight of steps. Buttresses counter the thrust, along this façade, of rib vaults whose ribs rest on pilasters.
