Historique

History
The oldest document mentioning the church dates from 990. The building successively depended on the monastery of Saint-Thibéry (10th century), the priory of Taussac (12th century), the commandry of Pézénas (13th century), coming under the authority of the bishop of Béziers at the same time. The construction of the present church is either prior to 1209, or posterior to 1242. The building has a single nave and a polygonal chevet with rib vault. Two lateral chapels appear to form a transept but are of more recent construction. The polygon of the sanctuary is decomposed into triangles by diagonal arches, thus forming five triangular vaultins ashlar in equidomoid joints and, towards the nave, a triangle vaulted with a barrel vault. The nave is covered with a pointed barrel vault, on doubleaux of rectangular section. The bell tower rests on the first bay of the nave. It is constituted by a massive wall as old as the base wall. At a recent period, this primitive bell tower was transformed into a rectangular tower.
