The lords of Beaufort are cited in charters of the 11th and 12th centuries. They were dispossessed after the Albigensian Crusade. The castle has three blocks of building arranged in a U around a wide terrace facing south. The south-west wing appears to have been grafted onto the main body in the 18th century, which is older but extensively remodelled at that time. Originally, the building seems to have consisted of a block arranged in a right-angled return, formed of the main body and the south-east wing. It was flanked at the angles of the north façade by two cylindrical towers. The north-west tower was partly incorporated into the south-west wing. Inside, the circulation between floors is ensured by a staircase with straight flights, placed on the axis of the main body. On the façade, the staircase cage is expressed by a projection that interrupts the roof of the building block. On the ground floor, with the exception of the kitchen covered with rib vaults, the other rooms have ceilings. Two salons present ceilings probably painted under the Empire or shortly after, as appears to be indicated by the ornamental repertoire: Greek frets, palmettes, winged griffons, antique scenes... On the upper floor, the rooms are also arranged in sequence. A bedroom presents a ceiling and fireplace mantel decorated with 18th-century plasterwork. Inside the north-west tower has been arranged a circular chapel, covered with a rib vault. Vault and walls have received painted decoration from a fairly recent period.
