Le nom de Madières est cité dès le 9e siècle. Le château occupait une position stratégique, commandant la vallée. Son plan s'inscrit globalement dans un rectangle. Trois des angles sont dotés d'une tour. A l'est, le portail d'entrée est doté d'une bretèche. La façade sud est établie sur une galerie à arcades formant terrasse dans sa moitié ouest. Fenêtres à meneaux et baies géminées. Les bâtiments s'organisent autour de deux cours intérieures. La première est divisée par deux hautes arcades en plein cintre derrière lesquelles se logent l'escalier et la première terrasse, donnant accès au niveau supérieur des bâtiments. L'accès à la partie nord du château, au niveau supérieur, se fait par un corps intermédiaire comprenant un passage voûté en deux travées sur croisées d'ogives. A droite s'ouvre la deuxième cour intérieure, entourée sur trois côtés par des galeries. Au premier étage de galeries, la pièce dite chapelle renferme des vestiges de peintures murales.

History
The name of Madières is cited from the 9th century. The castle occupied a strategic position, commanding the valley. Its plan is globally inscribed in a rectangle.
