In 1619, a new house was built on this site, separated from the town by the ditch and ramparts. In 1660, to enlarge this property, the owner purchased a ruined house and garden. In 1687, the construction of the citadel on a neighbouring mound led to the demolition of the ramparts on the north front. The property was expropriated for these needs, but as it lay outside the limits of the new fort, it was returned to the owners in 1691, except for the unbuilt land of which part was assigned to the creation of the governor's garden. The construction of the hôtel dates between 1691 and 1705. Certain elements of the construction are certainly much later. The opening of rue Ménard, in the early 19th century, led to some modifications of the west wing. The architect devoted all his care to the façade facing place Bouquerie on account of the development of the new cours at the end of the 17th century. The entrance door, reinforced with an avant-corps, was placed in the axis. Each of the windows of the main façade, with a curved lintel, is ornamented with a console key whose decoration consists alternately of a rocaille and a head. The balcony above is an interesting example of ironwork from Nîmes. It consists of a very long central panel, flanked by pilasters and small panels in the set-back end parts. The lateral façade, on rue du Fort, less carefully executed than the previous one, presents, overall, the same arrangements with grilled windows on the ground floor and large windows on the first floor. On this side, the entrance door is not placed in the axis. It is framed by rustication. The pilasters bear tall consoles decorated with channels and round pendant fruits. The key is carved with a beardless head.
