Historique
Construction de l'église entreprise en 1673 sur les plans du père Matthieu de Mourgues et achevée en 1678. Après la Révolution, les bâtiments du collège furent affectés à des usages scolaires, puis répartis entre la bibliothèque municipale, le musée d'histoire naturelle et le musée archéologique. L'édifice réalise une synthèse des églises à nef unique et des édifices à plan central. Sur un très vaste transept s'ouvrent, d'une part, une abside à trois pans précédée d'un choeur ; d'autre part, une courte nef. L'élévation intérieure est coupée par des tribunes établies à la hauteur du choeur et de la nef et, dans le transept et au revers de la façade, par un balcon pourvu d'appuis en fer forgé décorés notamment des initiales de la Compagnie de Jésus. Au revers de la façade occidentale, deux escaliers à vis conduisent à un second étage de tribune puis au toit. Une demi-coupole à pans recouvre l'abside et des coupoles sur plan circulaire et elliptique couvrent le transept et la nef. Chacune de ces coupoles est éclairée par un lanternon central faisant saillie sur la toiture, auxquels s'ajoutent deux tourelles d'escalier et deux clochetons. La façade occidentale, amortie en fronton et décorée de deux ordres entre les colonnes engagées desquels s'ouvrent des niches, est divisée en cinq travées.

History
Construction of the church undertaken in 1673 on the plans of Father Matthieu de Mourgues and completed in 1678. After the Revolution, the college buildings were assigned to school uses, then divided between the municipal library, the natural history museum and the archaeological museum. The building achieves a synthesis of single-nave churches and buildings with central plan. On a very vast transept open, on one hand, an apse of three faces preceded by a choir; on the other hand, a short nave. The interior elevation is cut by tribunes established at the height of the choir and the nave and, in the transept and at the back of the façade, by a balcony provided with wrought-iron railings decorated in particular with the initials of the Society of Jesus. At the back of the western façade, two spiral staircases lead to a second gallery level and then to the roof. A segmented dome covers the apse and domes on circular and elliptical plan cover the transept and the nave. Each of these domes is lit by a central lantern projecting from the roof, to which are added two staircase turrets and two small bell towers. The western façade, finished with a pediment and decorated with two orders between the attached columns from which niches open, is divided into five bays.
